The number of variations in the sizes of number plates available in Australia has grown tremendously over recent years. Now, in most states, you can specify a standard issue plate in a size to fit almost any vehicle neatly.
One example is the Euro plate. This size is ideal for many European vehicles which have a wider but shallower mounting recess for the plate. Special, or Personal plates come in quite a variety of sizes now too.
Listed on this page are the specifications of plate sizes we are aware of in the various Australian states and territories. You may like to check the Related Links page too, for more specific information.
Some of the plate sizes quoted here may seem confusing. e.g. The standard number plate is variously listed as being 372mm wide x 135mm high, 372mm wide x 134mm high, 372mm wide x 133mm high, 371mm wide x 133mm high, or finally, 372mm wide x 132mm high!
We've listed the sizes from information supplied by the appropriate state/territory authorities. In fact, ALL these plates (as well as the special plates) are manufactured by a single company and are, in fact, the same size all over Australia. Our brackets will fit them all perfectly.
Note that in some states, there are plate combinations which list plates of different sizes for the front and rear of the vehicle.
